Project 04
Title: Windows 2000plus!

Curricular connections: 
Technology, Art/Design, Art History, Social Studies, Language Arts, etc

Synopsis: 
Use media buzz about Windows OS to enhance unit on the art of stained glass, architectural history, digital media 

Key Questions:
What is a computer OS? Where do the terms used by computer folks (icons, etc) come from?
What is architecture? What is style?
What does decorative mean? What does utilitarian mean? Can something be both? 

Materials:
Text resources, Digital Camera, Computer, Art materials (drawing paper, pencils, markers)

Activities: 
Class discussion about Windows OS and computer technology in general.
Through class discussion, define architecture. Discuss windows as element of architecture.
Have each student create a simple outline drawing on tracing paper.
Each student alters the drawing to mimic the appearance of a stained glass window. 
Each student uses computer software to alter digital image to mimic stained glass window.
Present information on elements of architecture to students during beginning and end of class. 
End with discussion and oral presentations.


Variations:
Import a scanned picture into the computer project instead of a digital picture.
