Why Explore?

Exploration is a natural extension of human curiosity. We explore to find answers to questions that disturb, puzzle or intrigue us. We explore to connect with others who may be like us...or different. And, we explore to better understand who we are now and what may be ahead. The INTERNET offers a wonderland of possibilities to explorers with the proper electronic tools. But, who are the INTERNET explorers?
Well....who programs the VCRs and microwaves in America's households? The Kids! Today's kids can talk on the telephone, listen to the radio, watch TV, Surf the INTERNET and lurk in several Chat Rooms simultaneously. They are true examples of multitasking behavior! How are we supposed to teach them anything about this new media? If we require an environment where we alone are the experts, we won't. If we redefine our roles to be guides and coaches instead of directors, however, we have a chance to connect with learners in a meaningful and productive manner. These denizens of the digital domain still need assistance in placing what they know in context and connecting their skills with real world applications. And, as we guide, we can explore and learn!
